You have 14 days from the date of arrival in the country to apply for and inform the local authorities about your arrival and stay in the country. The documents required for the FRRO permit include

• Applicant’s headshot and a high-quality closeup of the applicant’s face according to the specifications.
• Copy of the student’s passport and visa.
• Proof of residence in India (details of the location where the student will live in the country).
• Joining letter from the institute the student will be studying at in India. This is in the form of a Bonafide Certificate or Form S.
• Copy of the admission letter and registration folio.

There are provisions to stay in India after completing the studies. However, the student needs to apply for the same at least two months before their visa expiration date.
